As a new mom to be packing your bag for the hospital can be a bit overwhelming. What will you, baby and partner need for the next couple days while you all adjust to your new expanded family?!! Prepping your bag is one of the last things to check off before that sweet little babe arrives 🙂
With my first daughter I was terrify I would forget something major and ended up over packing! (You know it’s bad when the attendant that walked us to the car laughed at how many bags we had. Opps!). With baby number two I majorly scaled back and only brought the essentials. Here are some of favorite must have items for baby and myself. I also made sure to stock up on postpartum items for myself for our first few weeks home. I wanted to be comfortable and relaxed so I could focus on bonding with my new bundle of joy.
Buy the cute, totally unnecessary baby’s 1st outfit. You only get to put them in an adorable onesies or swaddle once. I love buying something with their name and use it as a keepsake for a shadow box. The shadow box is great to protect and display all of baby’s items from those first few days (hospital wrist band, hat, going home outfit, footprints, etc). Don’t forget to snap a few photos in the hospital!
For BABY: Bodysuit/creeper, sleep and play pjs, mittens, socks.
For MOM: Nursing pads, tucks pads (YES for at home), chapstick, hand soup, face wipes, comfy pjs/loungewear (stock up!), socks, slippers, comfy undergarments (nothing fancy, you may end up tossing once home).
Can’t forget about any older siblings. I made sure to bring goodies for my daughter to make her feel included. The girls got matching outfits and some sister tops. My eldest was so proud to wear them and show off her new little sister.
Where to find what ended up in my bag
I bought theseTarget Button down Pjs and loved them for maternity and postpartum. They are super soft and great for nursing.
A robe is an essential for the hospital and when you are home. Easy to throw on over a nursing tank with leggings.Target robe & Nordstrom cozy wrap
This was one of favorite recent finds online. The tank is flowy and drapes great. It still has a shelf bra and is easy for middle of the night nursing sessions. Target sleep tank
Another one of my favorite finds this go around was this Target nursing tee. I love how retailers are offering options for new mamas. The side slits offer easy access for baby while still being a great basic tee for mom. Love the drape and fabric. Doesn’t cling to the body! I also love this Old Navy nursing tee.
LL Bean Slippers are a must! Feet swell during the end of pregnancy so its all about comfort. I live in these shoes even in the summer.
Nothing fancy here… but you will need some larger, none elastic undergarments. (plus you most likely will toss these once you are home). These were comfortable especially right after birth. I sized up one size for the ones I brought to the hospital Target underwear. Comfy Medela nursing bra 2 pack for nursing mamas. I liked these since there is no underwire. Great for at home. Buy multiple of these Target nursing tank and bring a few to the hospital. You will most likely wear multiple in one day (thanks to baby spit and poo).
Skip Hop Diaper backbag is my new diaper bag and I love the back bag feature. Easy to throw on and chase after a toddler and hold a baby.
Because leggings are a new moms best friend! Macy’s leggings
Gap has the sweetest and practical baby items. These were in my bag for my little lady’s going home outfit. Gap baby hat Gab bodysuit Gap bodysuit boy
