Must haves for New Moms and Baby
Now that I have little lady #2 on her way I’ve starting to think and make some lists of what we will need the first few weeks she is here. We have most of the large items already from our first born. But these items I thought were really essential for Baby and Mom. I don’t want to forget about myself. Self care is so important especially during those tiring nights and long days. I learned so much from when our 1st daughter was born that I thought it would be great to share some of the items that I felt were critical those first few weeks. And no they don’t include all that fancy stuff the baby stores tell you that you HAVE to have. These are great day to day items that I lived by with my daughter and plan to use the 2nd time around.

1.Cozy cardigan or robe
Barefoot Dreams Rib Cardigan
I love being able to throw on a cozy oversized cardigan or robe. (espically in the middle of the night for all those feeding sessions.) I LOVE the Barefoot Dreams brand. They wear like a dream and wash great! A huge plus for anything that involves burping babes.
2. Button front comfy pjs
J Crew Knit Pjs
Comfy knit pjs are a must for the hospital and the first few weeks while home. I basically lived in them for the first few days after delivery. THe only thing that felt good were pants with soft knit elastic waistband. A button front top was great for nursing and bonding. I bought a “cute” gown and robe for my 1st delivery and hated it. It didn’t fit and I just needed something with more comfort. These from Jcrew are super cute and practical!
3. Good slippers
LL Bean Slippers
I seriously wear mine every day! They are cozy but feel like real slippers. (I’ve accidentally gone to the store in them more than I’d like to admit too). They were also great in the hospital for my feet. Not sure why women’s feet always get cold after delivery but these surely warm them up!
4.Velcro Swaddle Blankets
SwaddleMe Blankets
These were a godsend when we couldn’t get a traditional swaddle blanket tight enough on our babe. She always managed to bust out of them and upset herself. These are so easy and wash great! I recommend multiple!
5. Dry Shampoo
Batiste Dry Shampoo
Because who has time to wash their hair? Love this one from Target.
6. Daytime wrap
Barefoot Dreams Wrap Cardigan
Another great option for a wear around the house/out and about wrap or cardigan. I was gifted this exact one and LOVEEEE it. Again can’t say enough great things about Barefoot Dreams. They have the softest fabrics.
7. Creepers/Onesies/Bodysuit
Carter’s Kimono Bodysuits
Whatever you want to call this genius baby inventions (I’ve heard creeper, onesies, bodysuit, etc) buy some now and then buy more! Don’t waste you money on fancy ones. Kids go through numerous ones a day and then the magically out grow them in like 2 days. Carter’s never fails me with adorable prints and great soft fabrics. I love the kimono style (that snap up the middle) because it doesn’t have to be pulled over baby’s head. Which can seem traumatic to first time moms.
8.Baby carrier or wrap
Lilliebaby Baby Carrier
After you are feeling better and are up for getting out and about I highly recommend a baby carrier or wrap. Even if you need to wear it around the house to get some things done when baby just wants to be held. We own this carrier and I LOVEE it. Great for newborn and toddler kiddos. It grows with them and can be worn so many ways.
9. Burp cloths
Muslin Burp Cloths
Again you can’t have enough burp cloths. Cloth diapers are great for cleaning up messes. We bought multiple packs and stored them around the house. They also were helpful during potty training. Man kids are messy!
10. Baby socks
Newborn socks
Not sure where baby socks go after they go through the wash but some always go missing. Newborns always seem to have cold toes so we love these fuzzy ones. I recommend buying all of one color. Then you don’t need to worry about matching when doing the laundry.
11. Lip gloss
BareMineral Buttercream Lip gloss
Because Mama’s need a quick fix to make them feel pretty! This is my go to nude lip gloss.
12.Nail Polish
Essie Nude Nail Polish
Another great quick pick me up for mom is a fresh coat of nail polish. Essie makes beautiful nudes and pinks.
