Making Room for What Matters in Life
Of this be sure: You do not find the happy life… You make it.
I’ve been racking my brain the last few days on how to start this topic. I really love what I do and its totally not what I had planned. But hey I am totally ok with that! Life works in mysterious ways. Taking my love of photography and growing it into a business has been one wild journey.
I’m not totally sure when the transition to photographer really happened. Although I’ve never attended school for formal training, I have always loved capturing spontaneous moments between friends and loved ones. Growing up I was always a social person and usually had some sort of camera in my hand. First it started with lovely Kodak disposable cameras then my my first large and awkward point and shoot digital camera (which I still have :). It’s massive and the playback screen is the size of my thumb. I still thought it was amazing! For my birthday my husband then surprised me with my first DSLR camera. I’m so lucky that he thought the my passion and talent was worth the investment.
Since receiving my first DSLR I’ve upgraded bodies, added new lenses, brought new flashes and I’ve just begun! After numerous fun shoots with family and friends I decided to take a leap of faith and started my own business. If it wasn’t for all my loved ones pushing me and telling me I was worth it there is no way I would be where I am today. I am so grateful to have a strong and encouraging support system. Seriously they push me to new heights and make me the best I can be. They lift me to new heights and I am so blessed!
Now as a boss babe, every day I try to take my business to the next level. I’ve taken the opportunity to learn my craft and business savvy from my favorite photog ladies (and gents). Each has shared what they have learned along the way and want me to succeed. I love the idea of “community over competition” and I hope to one day to pass my knowledge along. Between all the educators, my friends and family I continue to grow and reach for more and more!
Here is a fun fact I have a degree in Textile and Apparel Management. While everyone around me wanted to be a fashion buyer I had no desire to pursue that. Although I did love the hands on creation of a garment. My favorite courses were those that involved design, creativity, and marketing. I knew early on I was NOT a fashion designer but did love creating. I think my calling has been pulling together and creating scenes that evoke loving, natural and authentic emotions. It started with parties, gathers, and now has spilled over in my love for styled lifestyle and portrait sessions.
I can’t wait to see how this little business of mine thrives and grows on sweat, tears, and hard work. Thank you for all those who have inspired me and showed me unconditional support! Cheers to all those chasing their dreams and those that I hopefully have the chance to work with one day. Like my favorite Reebok commercial …”Unleash your creativity! I’m here to create!” So lets do this friends! Thanks for sharing this journey with me 🙂
XOXO, Kelly
