Say Hello to Julia Marie
We welcomed our 2nd daughter, Julia on April 12th. She came fast and furious and decided to come 2 weeks early in a very exciting entrance. I am so excited she is here and our family could not love her more! I’ve decided to share her birth story and how life has been the last six weeks since she was born.
The day before she was born was my 38 week appointment with my doctor. All looked good with Baby Bain except that she had not turned herself and the ultrasound confirmed that she was indeed breech (which was news to me). It was highly unlikely she would turn herself this far into the pregnancy. My doctor suggested that we schedule a c-section for the following week. I was thrown for such a loop that I was an emotional mess. This was not the plan and even though I know lots of mama’s who have had c-sections it really didn’t even cross my mind that my delivery would end up this way. My 1st daughter’s delivery was smooth and easy and all went according to the plan. After talking to close friends my mind was eased and knew everything would be ok. I knew this was the best option for both the baby and myself.
Oh but apparently our little lady had other plans. Later that night I woke up around 1 am with some cramping. Although they didn’t feel like contractions. I had leg cramps in the weeks leading up to that night and assumed baby was just sitting on a nerve. After a few calls to the nurse on call I decided we should head to the hospital. Things were happening so fast that we needed to get there asap. Funny note: Surprisingly that night our 3 year old woke up on her own before we decided to leave and came into our room and wanted to sleep with us. It was as if knew something big was about to happen. She was so cool and calm 🙂
As we raced in the car I told my husband to run the red lights and get me to the hospital as fast as he could. The pain kept coming faster and more intense. He dropped me off the the lobby and my water broke right there! Luckily at 2am there was an employee there and quickly wheeled me up the the labor and delivery floor. The nurses checked to see how far along I was and they immediately called the doctor. This was baby was on her way! Thank goodness we had an amazing doctor on call. He quickly made the decision to send me to a delivery room. There was no time to head to the operating room they had already prepped for me. A few pushes later (without any drugs… ahhh!) Miss Julia Bain was born at 1:35am on April 12th. She came into the world a bit stunned but quickly perked up. She was the most perfect little 5lb 7 oz baby girl I’ve ever seen!
I must say that day was a roller coaster of emotions. I was terrified and scared as we drove the hospital. (We were in such a panic that we forgot to bring our overnight bags!) Were we even going to make there on on time? How was this all going to happen since she was breech? Would she be ok? The whole labor happened so fast that I have to give so many thank you the numerous nurses who helped me. They were so calm and kept me sane. They were the best cheerleaders and kept me focused on the prize during all the chaos! They even held my hand while my husband was out parking the car and bringing in our other daughter Avery. I know I could not have done it without them!
So from start to finish (90 minutes later) we were a family of four and cuddling with our new baby girl. Even with the frenzy that came along with her birth our little peanut could not be sweeter. She is the calmest little thing and is such a great baby. Her big sister is her 2nd little mama and loves to look out for her and take care of her. Literally as soon as she wakes up in the morning she asks to hold her, its so darling. I can’t wait to see them grow up as best friends. We are all head over heels in love with our sweet baby Julia!
